The traditional Hochplatten Berglauf is entering a new chapter: For the first time, the race will become part of the official Chiemgau Trail Run programme and will open the event weekend on Thursday, October 22, 2026.

For more than four decades, the Hochplatten Berglauf has been one of the region’s most iconic mountain races. The course covers approximately 4.6 kilometres, leading runners from Piesenhausen up to the Staffn-Alm below the Hochplatte summit. Year after year, the race attracts ambitious mountain runners and numerous spectators to the mountain.

By integrating the event into the Chiemgau Trail Run weekend, tradition and modern trail running come together. At the same time, the unique character of the mountain race will remain completely unchanged.

“The Hochplatten Berglauf is an important part of our region’s sporting history. Together with TSV Marquartstein, we want to preserve this tradition while making it accessible to a new audience,” says race director Dominik Hartmann.

The race will start at 4:00 PM on Thursday. This ensures that all participants have sufficient time to reach the finish line, take part in the award ceremony at the Staffn-Alm and return to the valley in daylight. At the same time, runners will be able to enjoy the unique autumn atmosphere of the Chiemgau Alps.

Another benefit for participants: Entry fees remain unchanged. Athletes who additionally register for one of the Chiemgau Trail Run distances on Saturday will receive a 10% discount on their Saturday race entry.

The Hochplatten Berglauf will officially open the extended Chiemgau Trail Run weekend before the four trail running races take participants through the Chiemgau Alps on Saturday. With the return to the original routes over Hochgern and Hochplatte, runners can once again look forward to some of the most spectacular trails in the region.

Registration for the Hochplatten Berglauf and all Chiemgau Trail Run distances opens with the start of registration on June 17, 2026, at 6:00 PM.
